2D Amimation

I've finally completed my 2D animation, I used stop/start animation to produce the short film and used the software iStopMotion. Here is my 2D animation:

Creation

After completing and putting forward a proposal for my 2D animation I have began to create the drawings needed to start filming it. I have drawn a rough copy of each different invention the animation journey will take you through and have began to make some cut outs that will also be used in combination with the 'still' drawings as this is the most efficient and better looking option. I have also started to create the title sequence which will contain the title of the animation. I have also started to think about the soundtrack and other SFX's that will be throughout the short film.

2D Animation Proposal

2D proposal

Today we put together a proposal for either our 2D or 3D animation we're set to produce in the coming weeks. I have a good idea for my 2D so that's the animation I've decided to complete first, this is the animation I made the proposal for. I found it tough as the basic idea I had for the short film was there but I hadn't looked in depth into the idea. I created by making a basic outline to the animation and researched into important inventions during mankind.

Morph

Morph is a character created by the BBC, he's made out of modelling clay and is the main character in the short TV shows shown on many different TV programmes including: Take Hart, Heartbeat, SMart, The Morph Files and Morph as well as more. He was created by Aardman Animations, who was later known for Wallace and Gromit, for the BBC.

Claymation

Firstly we created models out of modelling clay. This is what I found the hardest about this task as moulding the clay was hard to especially make the model out of one 'lump' instead of making seperate parts like legs, arms etc. we had to make them out of one lump as otherwise they'd break when moving the characters in front of the camera.

Moving the characters on set was also difficult as getting them to stand up was a challenge as they weren't very well balanced.Although getting basic movement and managing the camera wasn't hard.

To create the clip we used iStopMotion, we found this fairly easy to use as we had both used it in the last animation we created. We then imported the clip into iMovie to add sound and a credits sequence. This was also easy to do as we used it last time.

Here is our clip:

Stop/start animation

This is mine and Callum's stop/start animation, we created this using iStopMotion. Firstly we drew a background, this wouldn't be able to move. We then drew and cut out all the sections that would move, for example; the head, wings, arms, legs, body etc. This was the basics we needed in order to create our animation.

To create the animation we used a camera on a stand and used the iStopMotion software to take still images each time changing the position of the things we wanted to move. For example at the start of the video we moved the water droplets out of the toilet and onto the floor etc. Each time we moved the sections we took 2-3 stills, this made the animation run more smoothly and meant it didn't jump, as much.

We then took the animation into iMovie in order to add sound effects and to edit the clips. To make our animation run more smoothly we should have made the pieces not move as far each time although this was hard as the paper we drew the different parts on were fiddly.
